Kayumba, a former professor at the University of Rwanda, has been starving himself to death at a police station in Kigali since Friday, according to his lawyer.
Ntirenganya Seif Jean Bosco, Kayumba's lawyer, told the BBC on Monday that a police officer with a client's file had informed him that he had been "taken to Gasabo District Hospital (ex. Police Hospital) for examination".
Mr Ntirenganya went on saying that his client had refused to be examined by a doctor because he was not the one who had requested her to be taken away.
He said Kayumba refused them to "enter his body to seek other charges against him."
Mr Ntirenganya also said that Kayumba confirmed that he already had a doctor to monitor him.
"I'm not sick. Why are they taking me to the hopital? I did not asked for that." he said.
His party, RPD, said on Twitter, "We have been informed that our President, Dr. Kayumba Christopher, has been taken to Gasabo District Hospital. We remind you that he has recently decided to starve himself to death because of the ongoing violence he is facing from the Rwandan government."
Kayumba was detained on Thursday after being questioned on suspicion of forcible sex use, according to the Rwandan Judiciary, RIB.
Kayumba is suspected of raping two women, in 2012 and 2017, crimes of cruelty under Rwandan law only aged 10 years later.
