Dr Ugirashebuja replaces Busingye Johnston, who was recently appointed Rwandan Ambassador to the United Kingdom.

Dr Ugirashebuja, 45, was born in Nairobi, Kenya and holds a PhD in law from Edinburgh University in the UK.

 

He has held various positions including Chancellor of the University of Rwanda until 2014.

 

Dr Ugirashebuja has also held other posts including being President of the East African Community Court, Judge in the East African Court of Appeal and being a legal advisor to the Rwandan Constitutional Commission.

 

He has also been a lecturer at the former National University of Rwanda, and a member of the Expert Group on Obstetrics and Gynecology in East African Community Policy.
