Why Ten Hag Didn't Use Cristiano Ronaldo In His Game Against Manchester City?
Coach Erik Ten Hag of Manchester United strongly criticized his players for their bad behavior as they lost to their rivals City 6-3.
The fuming Dutchman admitted his team were so bad that he refused to play Cristiano Ronaldo in a bid to avoid being slandered as a substitute.
Ten Hag missed the point as his side's first half performance ended with Manchester City beating them 4-0.
He said: "It's quite simple, there's a lack of confidence. We didn't have enough courage, we made mistakes in games and we lost a lot. If you don't have confidence on the field you can't win games, it's not acceptable."
Ten Hag replaced Marcus Rashford by Anthony Martial in the 59th minute and the French striker scored two goals.
The coach said he refused to insult Ronaldo by putting him on the ground, saying: “I shouldn't have brought him [Cristiano] because it would have been a disgrace to him - he had a great career.
And it was also an advantage to bring in Martial, he needs minutes."
