Kenya becomes the first country to waive visas for Africans
The President of Kenya, William Ruto, has announced that from the month of May 2024, no foreigner will be denied a visa to enter the country under his leadership.
President Ruto made this decision a few days after announcing that from December 2023, any African will be allowed to enter Kenya without a visa.
This means that it will not require anyone from anywhere in the world to apply for a visa to enter Kenya.
In his address to the people on the 60th anniversary of Kenya's independence, William Ruto officially announced that from the month of May 2024, his government is going to remove visa requirements for all people who travel to Kenya.
In order for this new policy to be implemented, President Ruto said that the government has set up a technology platform that will help all travelers to Kenya to identify themselves early, before coming.
This means that all travelers who want to travel to Kenya will first be allowed to visit through technology. Kenya is a country known to attract tourists.
He said, "From January 2024, Kenya is going to be a visa-free country. It will no longer be necessary for everyone living in the world to carry the burden of obtaining a Visa before coming to Kenya."
He added: "Kenya has a simple message for everyone in the world: Welcome home."
Kenya is doing this while many other countries continue to ease the process of entry and require visa-free entry for some of the countries.
Newspapers including The East African reported that President Ruto said that he did it in order to develop the economy by facilitating the flow of goods and people.
